Math Challenge Program

The Ella Baker PTSA is proud to offer two exciting math opportunities for students to sharpen their math problem-solving skills and gain confidence in tackling math challenges:

1.        Free Online Math Challenges (K-5)

2.        Math Challenge Tournament (New Updates!)

FREE ONLINE MATH CHALLENGES (K-5)

15 sets of challenges are published every other week throughout the school year.  Each challenge consists of 12 to 18 stimulating and engaging math problems ordered by level of difficulties. Solve as many problems as you can!  Family members are encouraged to get involved.  

 HOW TO PARTICIPATE? 

  1. Download your Math Challenges - Start here 

  2. Solve - Dive in and solve as many problems as you can! Try your best to complete independently at least the minimum number of grade-level questions. 

  3. Stuck? - Discuss problem-solving strategies with your family or explore tips here

  4. Submit – Enter your answers using the below online form.

MATH CHALLENGE TOURNAMENT

Exciting news! Ella Baker PTSA is excited to host the Math Challenge Tournament® once again this year! This national-level, in-person event is open not only to our students, but also to students from other schools, making it a wonderful opportunity to connect, compete, and celebrate a love for math. Math Challenge Tournament® is a National Mathematics tournament open to Grade 2 – 5 students. Students in Grade 1 can participate; however, they will be competing at a grade 2 level, division 2. This tournament is open to students in all 50 states.

Time: 6:00-7:30pm

Location: Ella Baker Elementary School (Commons/Gym)

🙌 Volunteers Needed!
We are also looking for parent and community volunteers to help make this event a success. Volunteer roles may include event setup, student support, check-in, and general assistance during the tournament. If you’re able to help, we would love your support!

Few important notes:

1. Tournament Fee: $26 per student. The tournament fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

2. This tournament is in-person only and not available online.

3. If you need to request changes (i.e. division, name, etc.) after registration, you can submit a Change Request at: https://www.ellipsisacademy.com/mct---change-request2.html

4. Once you've registered, you will immediately receive an email confirmation containing additional information. If you didn't see the confirmation email, please check your spam or junk folder.

5. Last day to register or submit a change request is Friday, March 6, 2026.

We will be sending an email to registered students with detailed schedule (check-in time, what to expect, pick-up time, etc.) on this event (within 1 week of the event).

The tournament offers a fun and engaging way for young students to showcase their math skills across a variety of topics while building confidence and problem-solving abilities. This is also a great way to support Ella Baker PTSA. We hope that your students will take advantage of this opportunity!

Submit Your Work

Please complete a separate submission form for each math challenge.

Select the specific challenge, and enter your answers for each question.

Each weekly challenge will contain approximately 12–18 questions.

Below is the general guideline, please see current math challenge for accurate details. The minimum successful number of problems to solve may vary by math challenge.

Grade K-1: Solve Successfully at least 3 problems.
Grade 2-3: Solve Successfully at least 7 problems.
Grade 4-5: Solve Successfully at least 12 problems.

*Each participant child in the family must complete a separate form.

Please submit answers by 2 p.m. on the due date of particular math challenge. Submission received after the deadline will not count toward recognition and award eligibility.  Only students who complete 10 or more challenges with answers that demonstrate reasonable understanding will qualify for recognition and award.
